Griffen cashes in, which should thrill Bennett

Defensive end Everson Griffen reportedly signed a five-year, $42.5 million deal with the Minnesota Vikings today. ESPN says $20 million is guaranteed.

Michael Bennett will likely command and receive more.

Bennett, by almost any comparison, is the better player at this point, though he is two years older than Griffen. The argument that is always going to benefit Bennett is one focused on efficiency, and it works when being compared to Griffen.

Griffen played 699 snaps to Bennett's 598 last season. Despite the more than 100-snap difference in playing time, Bennett had more sacks (8.5-5.5), combined tackles (31-28) and stuffs (5-3).

One thing of note for the Seahawks: No end played more for them than Bennett. Chris Clemons was second in snaps at 568 and Cliff Avril third at 554.
