Michael Sam took to the podium Saturday at the combine and used the time to answer multiple questions about coming out, and remind reporters he would like to simply be known as a football player.
Sam said he is a "pass rusher" when asked about the tweener label for him. He said he can play defensive end and linebacker. The latter is where most questions about Sam's ability arise. He showed at Missouri, where he was SEC co-defensive player of the year, that he can sack the quarterback. But, he looks slow at times in coverage.
One place Sam appears to fit is on special teams.
Since the initial media fervor about Sam, he's been keeping a low profile. He said Saturday he was busy preparing for the combine because his "100 percent" focus is on preparing for the combine and draft.
Initial projections were that Sam would be selected between the third and fifth rounds.
