News, notes and quotes Monday: Irvin coming back, Bennett may play

Just finished up with Pete Carroll.

The quick hits:

> In a surprise, Carroll said DE/DT Michael Bennett is feeling pretty good, will practice this week and could play Sunday. "He went from where he was, to feeling pretty good today. He was really scared," Carroll said.

> Carroll repeated what he said earlier in the day about RT Breno Giacomini, saying they're unsure of a timeline for his return. Hope it's a couple weeks after he had loose bodies cleared out from his knee. "He had surgery this morning. The surgery went really well. The doctors were really pleased that there wasn't a lot of problems with his knee structurally and that he can get back quickly from this. Whatever that means, I don't know," Carroll said.

> C Max Unger will practice later in the week. Carroll said they are going to be cautious with with Unger. "Max is going to get some work this week. We'll see how it goes. I'm sure we'll be very protective of him early in the week and hope by the end of the wee he'll be able to go."

> Bruce Irvin will be part of a roster exemption this week. That means the Seahawks don't have to cut anyone until Saturday, if he is added to the active roster for this weekend. He was back in the building Monday and had been working out at West Virginia.

> Carroll on Russell Wilson's play in Houston: "Extraordinary how he did it."

> Carroll said "we're going to be stronger because of that" when referring to the comeback in Houston.

> Carroll said they rushed the passer much better in the second half, but didn't change anything schematically to do so.

> The offensive line was a consistent topic. On Michael Bowie, Carroll said, "He survived the game." On Paul McQuistan, Carroll said, "He's surviving." So, those are the upbeat Pete Carroll's thoughts on the starting tackles. They are not dead.

"It's going to be easier for Mike the second time out at right tackle, starting the game and gets the whole week's preparation," Carroll said. "I thought he and Sweez did better as the game went on working together on the right side. Struggled earlier, then got better in terms of just working together. That will hopefully continue to improve.

"Lem played a good football game for us. Filled in really well for Max. We had a couple exchange issues. Timing at the line of scrimmage, we got messed up a couple times and we got a couple penalties because of it, hopefully we can clean that up and improve there."

> K.J. Wright came off against the Texans with a shoulder problem. Carroll said, "there's some history there" but that Wright is OK.

> Carroll said he talked to the team today about being 4-0. "It doesn't mean anything other than that's a good start. We're a long ways from home right now."

> Jeremy Lane has a hamstring issue, Carroll said.

> CB Byron Maxwell was rotated in for Richard Sherman at times Sunday to give Sherman a bit of a rest.
