The Seattle Seahawks have cut tight end Darren Fells, according to the league’s personnel transactions notice released this afternoon.
A former professional basketball player, the 6-foot-7, 260-pound Fells signed a futures contract with the Seahawks in March. Fells, 26, is the younger brother of New England tight end Daniel Fells, to a contract. Fells spent last season playing professional basketball for Libertad Sunchales in Argentina. He also played professional hoops in Mexico, France, Finland and Belgium.
The Seahawks selected Rice tight end Luke Willson in the fifth round of this year’s draft, so perhaps the team felt they did not need another developmental tight end on the roster. Seattle now as five tight ends on the 90-man roster – Zach Miller, Anthony McCoy, Sean McGrath, Cooper Helfet and Willson.
