Hawks add TE Anthony McCoy to IR, sign local product WR Greg Herd

The Seattle Seahawks announced a couple roster moves this afternoon. Seattle released wide receiver Matt Austin and signed Eastern Washington University product and Tacoma native Greg Herd.

Austin, who signed with Seattle on May 10, was released with a “left squad” designation.

Injured tight end Anthony McCoy cleared waivers and was added to the team’s injured reserve list.

Seattle also released offensive lineman Jordan Roussos and claimed defensive tackle Michael Brooks (Lions) off the waiver wire. Herd, a product of Steilacoom High, participated in Seattle’s local pro day in April at the VMAC. At 6-3 and 200 pounds, Herd initially signed as an undrafted rookie free agent with Dallas after the draft, but was released on May 13.

Herd played four seasons at Eastern Washington, starting 22 of 47 games played. Herd finished second on the team in receptions his senior season with 66 catches for 952 yards and seven touchdowns.

At 6-3 and 295 pounds, Brooks appears to be a candidate to play 3-tech for the Seahawks. The East Carolina product finished with 35 tackles and two sacks his senior season.
