Carroll on Hasselbeck: "We do want him back"

Head coach Pete Carroll was asked if he planned on re-signing Matt Hasselbeck in the offseason. Hasselbeck is in the final year of his contract and coming off probably his best performance of the year against the Saints last week

“Certainly it’s a big topic for us,” Carroll said. “Of course, we love what Matt’s done, and we’re going to do everything we can to keep him here. But we don’t know the timeline, or how that’s going to work out, and all that kind of stuff. But it’s a big issue for us that we’re looking forward to. He’s had a terrific run for us, and we want to see what we can do to keep that going.”

Carroll went to say that they do want Hasselbeck back. Hasselbeck has said he wants to finish his career as a Seahawk, so it will be interesting to see what kind of interest he gets on the open market and if money becomes an issue.

Carroll said linebacker Lofa Tatupu (head) will not practice today, but went through the walk-through practice earlier today. Carroll went on to say that it looks very favorable for Tatupu to play in the game.

Receiver Ben Obomanu (shoulder) is expected to practice today.

Carroll was pretty loose at today’s press conference, at one point answering the phone of a national reporter in town to cover Seattle's upcoming game against the Bears. The reporter was using his cell phone as a recording device on the podium when his editor called.

Carroll said his team will not practice outside this week, and does not have concerns with the field at Soldier Stadium.

Carroll also was asked if there was any concern about his team being overconfident after beating the Saints last week, and defeating the Bears earlier this season.

“Oh man, no,” said Carroll, holding back a chuckle. “Have you watched our season? The last thing we’re going to be is overconfident. We need to be right and fundamentally sound, and right no our game precisely. I don’t think that’s going to happen.”
