Morning links: Senior Bowl primer

We’ll ramp up our coverage of the draft beginning this week, with a couple reports from the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., from Rob Rang, senior draft analyst from NFLDraftScout.com.

You can watch the first day of practice this afternoon on the NFL Network beginning at 12:30 pacific time. UPDATE: We'll have our regular Monday Morning QB live chat at 12:30 p.m. today for those watching Senior Bowl practice at this time.

Russ Lande of The Sporting News takes a look at the top prospects who will perform this week.

Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Inquirer provides some perspective on the recent news that Carson Palmer has asked to be traded out of Cincinnati. Of course, this fuels speculation of a possible deal to Seattle because of his ties to Pete Carroll. Palmer would likely have to restructure his contract, because he still has four remaining that carries a base of $50 million with $1 roster bonuses in 2012, ’13 and ’14.

He’s also 32 years old and has not had a decent season in four years, playing with a much more talented supporting cast offensively than he would have in Seattle.

Then there’s compensation to consider. The Seahawks are already without a third round pick this season because of the Charlie Whitehurst trade, do they want to give up more picks for another QB? Although he’s three years younger, would Seattle see Palmer as an upgrade to Hasselbeck? I’m not buying it.

Reedy also adds today that Bengals owner Mike Brown says the team has no plans to trade Palmer at this time.

Mike Mayock of the NFL Network ranks the top five players at each position here.

Rob Rang of NFLDraftScout.com provides his top 10 performers from the East-West Shrine game.

It should be a pretty good Super Bowl matchup in two weeks with Green Bay taking on Pittsburgh. Vegas has the Packers as the early favorites, getting 2 ½ points.

Peter King of Sports Illustrated takes a closer look at the game here.
