Okay, just got out of the locker room. Pete Carroll talked at some length about the trade for Marshawn Lynch after practice. He loves his versatility and hard-running style. He recruited him to USC (didn't get him) and then had to play against him. He said he was "a monster" in college.
He said they'd had their eyes on him for a long time. As the rushing game has struggled, landing him became a more pressing priority. The reports are that he comes at a price of a fourth rounder in 2011 and a low conditional pick in 2012. That seems very a reasonable price for a recent Pro Bowl back ... even if it is one with the behavioral baggage that has been reported.
Justin Forsett and Brandon Mebane, who played with Lynch at Cal, both gave him positive reports as a teammate and friend. Forsett said that Lynch was a groomsman in his wedding. Both called him an exciting and explosive runner who can be a game-breaker.
More later as I get tapes transcribed.
