Just finished interviews. Will give you some quick observations before transcribing tapes to feed you quotes and print stories. First obvious thing was that TJ Houshmandzadeh, Deion Branch and Leon Washington were wearing helmets and participating in drills with their units ... although not joining in team sessions.
Rookie cornerback Walter Thurmond also was suited but saw limited action. Coach Pete Carroll said he believed all those guys were going to be ready for the start of training camp at the end of July.
Lofa Tatupu was dressed but not taking part (hamstring), with David Hawthorne filling in at middle linebacker with the first unit. Backs Julius Jones and Justin Forsett were excused because they were getting married -- no, not to each other. Carroll said Forsett was getting married and Jones was "renewing vows." I'll elaborate in subsequent posts.
Team sessions featured a lot of situational work, red zones and 2-minute drills, etc. The defense looked particularly good as it came up with three interceptions in the end zone. Jamar Adams and Anthony Heygood both picked Charlie Whitehurst, and Marcus Trufant got an INT off Matt Hasselbeck.
Good plays for the offense were a touchdown from J.P. Losman to Isaiah Stanback, and a Hasselbeck score to Golden Tate on a third-and-goal pass from the 6 with 17.4 seconds on the clock. Tate ran his man into the end zone and Hasselbeck gave him one of those back-shoulder deliveries. Very nice timing connection to a rookie.
Afterward, Carroll talked about the hiring of Scot McCloughan to the front office, about the huge roster churn, about the cutting of this minicamp from three days to two. More details to come after I get the tapes transcribed.
