Seattle Sounders FC apparently will have to play one more season on the existing FieldTurf surface at CenturyLink Field.
This is the period between the Seattle Seahawks final home game, and the Sounders' first home game, and no plans are in place for a new field.
However, the Sounders are believed to be negotiating a lease extension with First & Goal, the organization that runs the stadium. And it is believed that the new lease will include language that specify how often the field will be replaced.
The last field was replaced after three Sounders' seasons. The current one apparently will be kept through a fourth season.
Neither the Seahawks nor Sounders are willing to comment on the issue now, while the Seahawks' attention is understandably diverted to the Super Bowl.
However, both teams have admitted to different turf preferences, with the Sounders liking new fields with their stand-up blades, while the Seahawks prefer the speed of a broken-in field with tramped down blades.
