Sounders draw, end Cup 1-2-1

The game is over, and so is the Sounders preseason. Seattle ended things tonight with a come-from-behind 1-1 draw against Sporting Kansas City, with the equalizing goal coming from Obafemi Martins.

Martins and Clint Dempsey just swarmed the second half with plenty of good chances -- mostly on target but well-saved.

"I thought we started the game slowly," Schmid said. "We weren’t really as sharp as I wanted us to be. As the game went on, we obviously gave up a goal, but I thought from about the 25-minute mark on, I thought we picked up our game and played better. I thought we were playing better at the start of the second half, and then we got some good energy from Andy Rose and Kovar when they came into the game. I think that helped us, and at the end we had enough chances to win the game. But I thought we started out slowly today."

Seattle ends the Desert Diamond Cup 1-2-1.

The regular season begins March 8 at home vs. New England.

I'll be back with more quotes.

76: Red card to Gonzalo Pineda. Sounders will play this one out a man down.

60: Obafemi Martins draws things even.

Second half: ... has just begun. Will be interesting to see if Schmid more interested in 90 minutes for starters or last look at some depth. No changes to start the half.

Halftime: SKC 1, Sounders 0.

8th minute: SKC drives right through Sounders defense with Connor Hallisey finishing low into the far post. SKC, 1-0.

First kick: ... has been struck. Final game of the preseason is under way. Sounders in pitch black; SKC in blue hoops.

Lineup: Here's today's starting lineup, which coach Sigi Schmid had indicated could be very close to a dress rehearsal for the MLS opener next weekend: Sounders lineup:: Frei: Mears, Marshall, Evans, Gonzalez; Neagle, Azira, Pineda, Pappa; Dempsey, Martins. Bench: Perkins, Lyon, Correa, Scott, Lowe, Ockford, Fisher, Remick, Rose, Roldan, Jones, Kovar.

Pregame: The Sounders will end this Desert Diamond Cup run in a consolation match against Sporting Kansas City at 4 p.m. PT. The Sounders come in 1-2 in the tournament, including a 3-2 loss to Sporting one week ago.

We'll have updates before, during and after, maybe starting with the Seattle lineup, which should be very much like the first 11 coach Sigi Schmid plans for the season opener a week from tomorrow.

Here's our preview story from today's paper.
