On Sunday, they opened the season with a familiar-looking win.

Seattle got two goals from Clint Dempsey, one from Obafemi Martins and a clean sheet from Stefan Frei on its way to a 3-0 win over the New England Revolution at CenturyLink Field before a crowd of 39,782.

The Sounders took control run of play from the start.

In the 24th minute, Dempsey took the ball inside the top of the penalty area, made several moves and went down over the foot of New England midfielder Juan Agudelo. Referee Juan Guzman ruled it a foul, awarding a penalty kick.

Dempsey elected to take the PK himself, an knocked it past goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth and into the top right corner.

The Revs almost equalized in the 40th minute, when forward Kelyn Rowe of Federal Way put the ball low and inside the far post, however Frei managed to get a hand on it, sending the ball just wide.

Instead of being even, Seattle increased its lead a minute later as Dempsey sent a pass down to right side to defender Tyrone Mears. Mears sent a cross in front of the goal, where Martins headed it in.

In the 67th minute, Marco Pappa sent a through ball down the middle of the pitch to Martins, who touched the ball off to Dempsey on his left, who touched the ball into a wide-open net.

In the closing seconds, top pick Cristian Roldan made his pro debut.

The Sounders return to action at 7 p.m. Saturday when the San Jose Earthquakes visit.
