Sigi shares story of one-armed driving, painting uncle (How could you not click on this?)

I have been lucky enough to get to hear a lot of Sigi Schmid stories over these seven seasons. One of my favorites today, after he was asked -- I have no idea why this came up -- if he knows how to drive a shift.

"Are you kidding me? I’m German," he said. "I had an uncle – he was actually my grandmother’s brother – and he lost his right arm in the war. And so he drove a stick – OK? – he drove a stick left handed. I’m like a 9-year-old kid in the car and he’s like put the steerwhile between the legs and reach over and shift. If I can live through that I can learn how to drive a stick. … He was actually right-handed, learned how to do everything left-handed and became a great water-colorist – an excellent painter – which is pretty amazing."
