'Difficult game': Sounders face early MLS leader on the road

LogoDallasThe Sounders are in Texas today. I am not. And no press events planned.

However, some leftover quotes from Sigi Schmid on the 5:30 p.m. Saturday match at unbeated/untied FC Dallas.

On the match: It’s going to be a difficult game. They’re a team that’s in good form right now. It’s not dissimilar to what we faced last year when we went down there. And so we’re going to be prepared. Obviously we’re going to be without Clint, so we’re going to make our lineup adjustments and put the lineup on the field that will succeed. We know we have the quality. I think that showed in the Tijuana game that there are players that can play. It’s their opportunity because the door is open because of national team call ups with Pappa, Dempsey; and that means opportunities for others to show what they can do.

On both team's personnel losses due to international call ups: It shouldn’t affect the match much at all. Both teams pride themselves on their depth, and the competition for places. It’s up to the guys who are on the field to do the business.

On the Sounders' first road game of the season: We’ve been a good road team – not just last year, but for a while. I think it’s our philosophy, and the philosophy that we have as a team when we go on the road is we’re still coming here to play. We don’t go on the road to bunker, to sit in the back. Sometimes games take on a personality and that might happen, but in general we go out there and we try to get after it just like we do at home. … You always need to get a feel for playing on the road again, but there are a lot of guys on the field who have been through those wars and if you put some guys on the field who haven’t been through a lot of those, they’ve got enough guys they can lean on. I think we’ll be fine.
