Young Sounders helped themselves between S2 and filling in at Dallas

Some young and little-used Sounders got chances to shine over the weekend, between five starters missing at FC Dallas and then the S2 romp over Vancouver.

Coach SIGI SCHMIDOn Cristian Roldan in his first MLS start:

"I thought Roldan did OK. He was a little too conservative maybe for my liking. He’s a kid who doesn’t want to make a mistake. I’m sure he wants to make sure that he does well defensively. I think for the team as well as his attacking play. It was a lot for him considering he played 90 minutes against Tijuana for him to come back. We were asking a lot. I thought Kovar coming in brought us some good energy. But I was happy with Cristian.

On Darwin Jones hat trick with S2: We’re happy obviously with S2s victory and they way they’ve played the first two games I think has been good. It’s been good for the young players that we have as they continue to grow and develop. Darwin, obviously three goals, anytime you do that it’s a great game. So you’ve just got to continue to build on that. That should give you some confidence, and you just continue to build on that and grow with it.

On other guys who helped themselves: I think the success of what they did in Dallas and having a clean sheet and coming away with a point, and the success of the S2 team as well, where you’ve got Andres Correa playing there at left back and Damion Lowe playing a good game at center back. That all puts pressure that people have to perform, and if not there’s other people we can turn to. I think competition is always good. We’ve got players who are driven by that.
