Sounders Insider

Updates: Dempsey, Evans, Morris, Kovar

The Sounders are off the practice pitch for another day. Among those taking part was Clint Dempsey, who had missed the Sunday match at Los Angeles with a hamstring injury. Among the missing was Brad Evans, in Texas with the USA national team as it prepares to meet Mexico on Wedneday.

Some updates from coach Sigi Schmid on the players' availability for the Sounders match at Colorado on Saturday:

On Dempsey hamstring: We’re hoping he continues to make strides. We’ll see how he feels tomorrow now, because he went through all of training today. He did some extra work, so we feel pretty confident he’ll be able to go on Saturday.

On Evans: It all depends a little bit on how many minutes he plays in San Antonio. I understand they’re laying a grass turf over the Astroturf, so sometimes those fields play really, really heavy. I don’t know what his plans are: Is he in the starting lineup, is he going to play center back, is he playing outside back or whatever. That’s up for Jurgen to decide. We’ll play it by ear. He’ll come back here on Thursday and then we’ll make some decisions.

On Jordan Morris' call to national team: Obviously good for Jordan. We hope he continues to grow as a player, and we hope to have him in a Sounders uniform one day.

On Aaron Kovar: He started preseason well. He played well when he had his opportunities. He played well from there. It’s still a word in progress for Aaron. I think right now he probably needs to get a game again, so he might get a game with S2 this weekend, because I think that’s important for his development. You can’t with a young player who’s always only a sub and getting spot playing here or there and just getting practice, it stalls it a little bit. I think his continued growth is dependent on some of those games as well. He’s worked hard, he’s done a good job, he’s gotten some good positions on the end lines, good crosses, that’s important.
