Saturday comes: Sounders at Crew at 4:30

080407sounderslogo[1]The Sounders meet MLS Supporters Shield defending/leading Columbus at Crew Stadium at 4:30 today. The game will be shown on KONG 6/16 and the usual radio outlets. It's a cloudy and cool morning in central Ohio, at it doesn't seem like it's going to change much by gametime.

Here's my preview of the game, which deals with Sigi Schmid's return and Crew life in Columbus without him. And that's largely also the topic of today's coverage in the Columbus Dispatch.

And while I've written about the homecoming aspects of this game for Schmid, and even Ezra Hendrickson and Brad Evans, it's also a somewhat more distant one for Steve Zakuani, who played his college ball about 125 miles away in Akron.

Here's his reaction: "Unfortunately the (Zips) actually play in Florida, so the team can’t be there. But some of guys who graduated that I played with and just friends from around the area, they’re making ticket requests and stuff like that. Ohio is like my home in the States. It’s kind of like a homecoming. It’s a game I’ve looked forward to all year, and it’s a big one too."

Meanwhile, there's a lot of other action around MLS this weekend, a lot of it affecting the Sounders' playoff hopes. Here's a look.
