Portland owner says MLS not a done deal

The Portland Timbers may end up being a beautiful baby and eventually even a strong and healthy adult. But it's a difficult birth.

Even though MLS is functioning under the assumption that the Timbers are entering MLS in 2011 in a renovated PGE Park, owner Merritt Paulson is now saying that the soccer deal won't get done unless something gets done for his PCL baseball Beavers.

"If I don't get a baseball deal done, I'm not going to finalize the deal with Portland," Paulson said in the Oregonian. "So MLS will not come to Portland unless I do a deal for a new baseball park."
