No sooner does Freddie Ljungberg get used to the idea of playoffs, now he has to learn all about postseason honors.
Still, the nominee for MLS Newcomer of the Year understands that it is an honor.
“It is nice to get awards, but it’s nothing I really think about," he said. "For me, it’s more about the team and I want to make the team play well. If I get some recognition for that then of course that is great. But I will try to play for my team and do as well as I can.”
Coach Sigi Schmid is more familiar with the concept, of course, having already won MLS coach of the year honors twice.

Here's what he had to say about the seven MLS postseason honor nominations that went to Sounders.
“I think it’s great," he said. "Obviously we are going to win one of the awards because we have the only nominees in it (Newcomer of the Year). It’s great for what they’ve accomplished this year. For (Jhon Kennedy) Hurtado to be up for Defender of the Year, for Kasey (Keller) to be up for Goalkeeper of the Year, Newcomer of the Year award as well and me being up for the award (Coach of the Year) is just a reflection that the team has done well because you don’t win Coach of the Year if your team finishes last. It’s a reflection of all the hard work the guys have put in and having a good season.”
