MLS Cup trophy arrives in Seattle

MLS Cup 2009 activities kick-off in the Emerald City this Wednesday, Nov. 18, as the Philip F. Anschutz championship trophy, which will be presented to the winner of MLS Cup 2009, makes its official arrival into Seattle aboard one of the state’s picturesque ferries. Escorting the trophy on the incoming M/V Wenatchee will be MLS Ambassadors and former MLS Cup winners Chris Henderson and head coach Sigi Schmid – both now part of the Seattle Sounders FC organization.

Created by Tiffany & Co, the sterling-silver trophy and accompanying MLS Ambassadors will be joined upon arrival at Pier 52 by King County Executive-Elect Dow Constantine, who along with local soccer fans will welcome the famed hardware to the Puget Sound area. The Philip F. Anschutz Trophy will be presented at this year’s MLS Cup on Sunday, Nov. 22 at Qwest Field in Seattle, WA. at 5:30 p.m. The game, featuring the LA Galaxy vs. Real Salt Lake, will be televised live on ESPN and Galavision.
