I'll have more in the Thursday paper. But for now, a few quotes from Sounders coach Sigi Schmid on the Portland Timbers' visit Thursday night:
On plan against the Timbers: “We want to look at a few different people tomorrow as well. There are still some decisions that we have got to make. So we want to look at some people and maybe look at a different mix in the middle of midfield for us tomorrow night. Tyrone (Marshall) has played a lot of minutes early on this season so probably have him play only 45 minutes tomorrow as well. But for the rest of it, we just want to get ourselves prepared and get ready for the game the following week against Colorado [Rapids].”
On winning game: “You always want to win. You always want to win so we are always out there going to win the game. We also have a lot of confidence in our people and there are guys who can certainly come off the bench and play. So we want to win the game. I can assure our fans that.”
On game as a charity fund-raiser: “Our team and the organization is very supportive of that and anytime we can help out the charities that are around that are going to help out the kids and the underprivileged and people who don’t have as much as some of the others of us are able to have, it’s always a great thing. So being able to get fans out here to watch the spectacle of soccer, to watch the spectacle that Sounders soccer is and to watch the rivalry of the Sounders and Portland and have the money go to a good cause, is a great night.”
