The Sounders' fast start netted them only another home point with a 1-1 draw with still-unbeaten Columbus.
Seattle had several chances in the second half. Montero hit the right post in the 52nd minute. Patrick Ianni headed one over the bar on a corner from Ljungberg in the 62nd minute. Ljungberg hit the right pole a few minutes later. In stoppage time, an apparent goal by Montero was waved off due to a Sanna Nyassi foul.
The Sounders even played the final five minutes with a one-man advantage after Columbus defender O’Rourke picked up a second yellow card. But the club’s problem with finishing lingered on through the final whistle.
Seattle stands a 2-2-3, Columbus at 2-0-2.

First half stoppage time: What had been the best half of the Sounders season ended badly as yet another stoppage time goal -- O'Rourke crossing to Lenhart, who headed from point-blank range -- pulled Columbus even, 1-1.
Sounders outshot Columbus, 7-3. Both teams put two on goal.
Zakuani's opening goal was the earliest in Sounders' history.
(Note: Stephen King played for DC tonight, subbing in in the 17th minute.)
4th minute: A beauty of an opening. Vagenas pass to Fredy Montero, who was knocked down by a Crew player. However, Salazar allowed them to play on as the ball went to Fredy Ljungberg, who one-touched to wide-open Zakuani. Zakuani ran at keeper William Hesmer, faked a shot in the box, moved right past the keeper and touched into an open net. Sounders, 1-0.
Kickoff: Game on.
Uni note: Crew in yellow/yellow; Sounders in blue/blue.
Lineups: For Seattle: GK, Keller; D Riley, Hurtado, Ianni, Gonzalez; M Evans, Vagenas, Alonso, Ljungberg; F Montero, Zakuani. Reserves: Boss, marshall, Sturgis, Wahl, Nyassi, Estrada, Montano.
For Columbus: GK, Hsemer; D Hejduk, Brunner, Iro, O'Rourke; M Gaven, Carroll, Moffat, Rogers; F Lenhart, Scheotto.
Pregame: It's cloudy and cool at Qwest Field now, about 75 minutes before kickoff. But no rain.
Also, for those of you coming up from the South Sound -- either tonight or ever -- the new I-5 exit is open. It's called Atlantic (replacing the old Fourth Ave. exit), and swoops you straight down to Edgar Martinez Way, where you can then loop Safeco and head to the Qwest Garage or North Lot or whatever. But it's very cool.
Meanwhile, normal gameday blogging plan here: Keeping this one open for pregame, in-game and postgame updates, notes and quotes.
Starting soon with the Sounders lineup, which I'm eager to see.
