Patrick Ianni missed Sounders training this morning at Starfire, and coach Sigi Schmid explained that the defender was advised to stay away from training after having stomach illness overnight.
He is expected to be available Wednesday when the Sounders host Monterrey in CONCACAF Champions League group play.
Less certain was the status of midfielder Steve Zakuani, who missed the group play opener at Marathon due to a pelvic strain and general soreness.
"I still have to meet with him after training," Schmid said. "He worked with (fitness coach) Dave Tenney today. Dave said he was able to do everything he wanted him to do, so we’ll see how he feels."
There's sort of a similar situation with Mike Fucito.
"We’re still trying to build Mikey’s fitness," Schmid said. "He’s an explosive guy and he’s done really well, but it takes him a while to build his aerobic fitness. Like today, he wanted to shoot a while, but we said no because that’s how (he) got injured the last time, where he tightened up his hamstring and he missed three or four days. So we’ve got to be careful with him, but certainly his energy and his abilities of being quick and sharp are important and we’re going to need him in this stretch of games. He’s going to play a role for us."
