The game has gone final as a 3-1 Sounders win ... the last goal coming from still-sizzling Sanna Nyassi, who in the 90th minute sent in a rebound after Fredy Montero sizzled a 25-yard bullet off a post.
Here's a quick overview from Sigi Schmid:
“I thought we played well in the first half. We pretty much had the game. They sometimes had better possession than us, but I thought we were more dangerous. At the start of the second half they went much more into a 3-5-2 and we made a couple of changes, and basically we lost the plot there. There was a period of about 25 minutes where they definitely controlled the ball on us and we didn’t get possession back. At the end – even before the red card – we were starting to get possession again. And then after the red card we were able to hold onto the ball again.”
And here's what Chivas coach Jose Luis Real had to say through an interpreter:
“Obviously what affected us was the early goal by Seattle. That really affected us. We needed the break at halftime to give us the time to adjust. I think in the first half Seattle had a good performance, and in the second half I believe Chivas had a better performance.”
The Sounders complete this season's international friendly schedule 2-1, with wins over Boca Juniors and Chivas, and a loss to Celtic.
I'll be back with more notes and quotes in posts above.
Red card: Chivas defender Juan Ocampo sent off with a nasty sliding challenge into Michael Seamon ... who is back up now.
75th minute: Interesting substitution: Montero in for Jaqua.
70th minute: Chivas cuts the lead in half with a goal by -- I think, we haven't gotten the official announcement yet -- Marco Fabian.
Second half: Has begun. Chivas made a handful of subs. The Sounders have sent in Vagenas and Akeem Adams. (The latter is a trialist from Trinidad.)
Halftime: Sounders dominating and take 2-0 lead into locker room.
26th minute: Sounders almost get another, this time with Fucito shaking the goal with a booming shot off the post.
18th minute: Sounders jump ahead 2-0, and Nate Jaqua heads home a long cross from Levesque. Fucito also gets an assist.
Fifth minute: Michael Fucito took a Roger Levesque pass at full steam down the middle of the area and finished off the left post. Seattle up quickly, 1-0.
Kickoff: Two anthems have been played, and the game had kicked off. Goats in traditional red and white stripes/blue, Sounders in electricity yellow/yellow.
Lineups: As Sigi Schmid indicated, the Sounders are going with a largely reserve lineup for their game tonight against Chivas Guadalajara.
Sounders: GK Boss; D Scott, Marshall, Graham, Wahl; M Estrada, Fernandez, Seamon, Levesque; F Fucito, Jaqua. Reserves: Keller, Ianni, Montano, Montero, Nyassi, Parke, Sturgis, Vagenas, Zakuani, Adams.
For Chivas: GK Michel; D Perez, Enriquez, Ocampo, Escalante; M Majia, Baez, Davila; F Medina, Sanchez, Oviedo. Reserves: Hernandez, Fabian, Arellano, Araujo, Esparza, Avila.
Pregame: Twin Mexican flags and Mexican dancers are on the pitch, along with a Mariachi band, helping Qwest Field take on an international flavor for tonight's friendly match between the Sounders and Chivas Guadalajara.
Most of the upper deck is open are there are no tarps on the south end or over the Hawks Nest -- all in anticipation of perhaps the largest crowd of the Sounders' season. But it also is likely to be the most 50-50 crowd of the season, as there are about as many red-and-white striped Chivas jerseys as there are Sounders jerseys.
The game kicks off at 7, and will be shown on FSN and broadcast on the regular radio outlets.
We'll also keep this blog post open all night for pregame, in-game and postgame information, and for your comments.
