Real Salt Lake scored twice in stoppage time to salvage a 2-2 draw at Colorado tonight. That result kept the Sounders in the No. 4 spot in the Western Conference and keeps alive RSL's hopes for Supporters Shield.
Whichever wins the Shield will be Seattle's first-round playoff opponent. And that Shield will be determined Sunday night, when FC Dallas visits LA. A win or draw gives the Galaxy the Shield ... and Seattle as its opening opponent. However, a Dallas win gives the top seed to RSL, and lines them up as Seattle's opening-round opponent.
LA and RSL are currently tied with 56 points. However, if it stays that way, Salt Lake will advance on the second tie-breaker. The clubs split their regular-season meetings, but RSL has an eight-goal advantage in goal differential.
Regardless opponent, the Sounders first game of its home-and-home aggregate-score series will be played 5 p.m. Oct. 31 at Qwest Field.
