Tide Sign Local Talent

Tacoma Tide Football Club today announce the return of two more players for the 2011 United Soccer Leagues PDL campaign. Local boys Chase Tangney and Daniel Gray will again bolster the Tacoma attack from the midfield.

Chase Tangney

Chase Tangney has been causing trouble for Tide opponents up and down the touchline since 2007 when he made his Tacoma PDL debut with four goals. In 2010 the 23 year old, five foot eight inch winger tied for team honors with four assists.

Tangney is another in a string of local guys who make up the backbone of the Tide. Chase was born in Gig Harbor, went to Bellarmine Prep High School, and played premier youth soccer with FC United (now Washington Premier FC). Tangney played college soccer for the University of San Diego.

Tangney scored a highlight reel goal in 2008 when the Tide hosted the Vancouver Whitecaps Residency. The first marker in Tacoma's eventual 4:0 victory over the Caps was a long-range strike on the volley after a Vancouver defensive clearance. The goal was named “Goal of the Month” in the entire PDL for June of that year.

Tangney's strengths include his quickness, crossing ability and keeping defenses honest with his shots from distance. Chase wears #6 on his Yellows jersey.

Daniel Gray

You can't get much more local than Daniel Gray, who was born in Tacoma as the son of Tacoma Stars player Gerry Gray, who is now the head coach of the Tide. Daniel turned 22 in December and stands five feet, ten inches tall.

Gray attended Bellarmine Prep High School and racked up a series of state and local honors while winning a title and dominating the Narrows League post-season awards.

Gray's college career saw him play with Cal-Poly before transferring to the University of Washington for his senior year. Now that his college eligibility is over Daniel has plans to try his luck in Europe after the Tide season is complete.

In a February 2011 interview on Gray talked about the upcoming season. “Hopefully we will be able to grow from last year and make it to the playoffs. We were a bit disappointed in not making it because we felt that we could compete with any team.”

Gray's contributions to the Tide attack at central midfield include his excellent passing skills, field awareness and ability to shoot from distance. Daniel wears #11 for the Yellows.

Online Trading Cards

Tangney and Gray's online player trading cards are now live on the club's Facebook Page gallery. This season Tacoma will present a series of electronic cards that fans can collect via social media. Earlier the club announced the return of local players Chris Sanders (Forward, Federal Way) and Jordan Jennings (Goalkeeper, Tacoma).

Season Opener and Season Tickets

Tacoma Tide FC will open the 2011 PDL season on Friday night May 13 at 7 PM in Stadium Bowl when the Yellows host the new North Sound SeaWolves (Everett). The 15,000-seat Bowl is both the largest and oldest in all of the PDL. This marks the first season in six years that the Tide will actually play in Tacoma proper. The club played in University Place from 2006-2010.
