Sounders Insider

Monday reading, including preseason looks at Galaxy,Timbers, Whitecaps; local connections

The Sounders return to training today, using their regular home at Starfire for the first time. So, I'll be back here with some updates then.

First, however, a few news items from around the league. And we'll start here, as at least a couple of local stories about the Sounders -- including this one by me -- have included general manager Adrian Hanauer's quote that "there could be a jaw-dropping addition." And while that could be read to mean that there, well, could be a jaw-dropping move (as in today's MLSsoccer.com Kick Off roundup) I want to clarify that Hanauer didn't volunteer that or even originate the wording. I was trying to ask if this is the basic roster the team plans to take into the season or if some major change could take place. And in trying to emphasize that I was asking about major changes and not just the normal camp-body comings and goings, I asked "could there still be a jaw-dropping addition," and Hanauer echoed that wording in his answer.

OK, elsewhere:

This report that former Sounder Pete Vagenas appears ready to sign with Chivas USA.

A look at how the defending Supporters Shield/MLS Cup champion Los Angeles Galaxy shapes up heading into this season. And something similar for the Portland Timbers. And the Vancouver Whitecaps. Here's a short look at UW's Jacob Hustedt starting his MLS career at San Jose. And speaking of the Quakes, here's a look south as they assemble for the new season.
