The Sounders returned to training this morning after four days off. Coach Sigi Schmid gave this update on players who had been fighting injuries:
"Obviously Leo (Gonzalez) participated today for the first time. Adam (Johansson) did more. It was good. (Patrick) Ianni was working with Dave Tenney. Everybody was a step forward. Mauro (Rosales) was in full training. So was (Alvaro) Fernandez. So everybody took a step forward. (Steve Zakuani) is training. We look at it day by day. He was full in training today, and we’ll see how he continues to come along. Tomorrow we’re going to play a little bit, so we’ll look at him in that situation.
Schmid also gave this update on the two players the club selected in last week's MLS Waiver Draft:"We’ve had Daniel Steres up here before. He played a couple of reserve games for us earlier in the year. He was at our combine. We like him. We felt right now with the injuries that we had in the back that he might be somebody who could help us maybe fill something there if we need to. Right now we don’t have an opening in our roster, but you never know what happens in the next month or so.
"… Smith was another guy that we saw at our combine that we really liked. He’s playing with Pittsburgh right now. … He’s a wide player, he’s a winger. And we’re seeing what the situation is. He might be bound right now to Pittsburgh, so we can’t get him out of there. We’re going to have to see what the situation is. But we liked him when he was in our combine. He was another guy if he would have been on the draft board we would have drafted."
