Sounders coach Sigi Schmid said after training today that All-Stars Eddie Johnson and Osvaldo Alonso should be ready to play Saturday at Colorado ... in Alonso's case, despite almost an hour of work against Chelsea last night.
SCHMIDOn Eddie Johnson's game-winning goal) "Obviously, he did well in terms of his run and getting into the space. He hit the shot-he was trying to hit it back against the grain-got a deflection and it went into the goal. It was a very important goal because it was the game-winner. It's good for him. Anytime a goal-scorer scores, no matter what the goal is, it's good for him."
On Alonso playing 56 minutes in the All-Star Game) "I understand Real Salt Lake has got their game on Friday, so he cut [Kyle] Beckerman's minutes-didn't cut [Jay] DeMerit's minutes, but cut Beckerman's minutes. Ozzie has to play a lot of minutes. He's pretty fit. We've found a way to manage him, we just have to manage him a little more carefully."
On if he expects Johnson and Alonso to play Saturday) "Yes. They'll play. We wanted them to come (back to Puget Sound today), we didn't want them to go to Colorado because we didn't want to put them in altitude a day early."
