Reign selects Starfire; season ticket sales Thursday

ReignFCSeattle Reign FC of the National Women’s Soccer League announced today that it will play its inaugural season at Starfire Sports Stadium in Tukwila.

"We were definitely focused on Starfire from the beginning," owner Bill Predmore said. "We think CenturyLink is amazing, of course, but it’s 60,000-plus. I think it would be a little big for us to start, and we want it to be an atmosphere that is a little more intimate, and that’s something that’s not probably in our wildest expectations that we could achieve in our first season, at CenturyLink. So that was crossed off the list. Memorial Stadium I think is a possibility, but there were a number of logistical factors there that make that a little bit more difficult for us to make work for the club. All things being equal, Starfire just offered the best combination of attributes for us. I’m been there many times for matches, Open Cup matches, and I think when the place it packed it is a pretty amazing place to see a match. It feels about right for us, for what we might expect in terms of attendance."

Season tickets go on sale at 9 a.m. Thursday at SeattleReignFC.com. The NWSL schedule has not yet been released.

"We’re hopeful of filling up Starfire, and we’ve seen thus far a lot of enthusiasm for the club," Predmore said. "But at the same time we’re realistic that we’re a brand-new club and we realize its going to take a bit of time for people to become aware of us. Our goal will be to fill it, but again, we think we’re going to need to take a number of steps to get to this point."
