With the Sounders, coach Sigi Schmid speaks the day before games; but the players are generally kept away from the media.
Tigres does it the opposite. Coach Ricardo Ferretti was unavailable tonight after training at CenturyLink Field. However, players were available; and that left midfielder Jonathan Bornstein to offer this explanation for the reserve-heavy roster that Tigres brought up to Seattle for the deciding CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal match against the Sounders on Tuesday at CenturyLink Field.
"I think definitely we have depth on the team," he said. "Our coach likes to have a big bench. We have a lot of players who on other teams are starters. So I think we definitely have the depth. Along side that we also are focusing on league also. The guys just played on Saturday. To travel all this way, it’s a long travel day. Yesterday we left in the afternoon and got here pretty much at midnight. So for them to play and do all that travel is pretty tough. I think both of those aspects play a factor in selecting a squad to be on the field tomorrow."
