The Sounders have come off the training pitch for another day. They're off tomorrow, but when they return to Starfire on Thursday, they expect to be joined by Eddie Johnson, Obafemi Martins and Mario Martinez, all back from international duty.
Martins, in fact, might be back in time for some indoor training this afternoon. Meanwhile, Johnson (USA) and Martinez (Honduras) are playing World Cup qualifiers tonight and then head back to the Northwest.
Meanwhile, Sounders coach Sigi Schmid clarified that the club was initially confused about goalkeeper Michael Gspurning being ineligible for their CONCACAF Champions League semifinal Tuesday, because in most competitions yellow cards wipe clean in the switch from group state to knockout rounds. However, that wasn't the case this season, when CCL switched to three-team/four-game group stages. And therefore, Gspurning's yellow for delay late in the second Tigres leg counted as his second yellow and therefore equals a red for the Santos Laguna opener Tuesday at CenturyLink.
I'll be back with some direct quotes on all of that from Schmid and Gspurning.
