Three University of Washington standouts will join the Sounders U-23 this summer for the 2013 PDL season. Defender Ian Lang, defender Michael Harris, and midfielder/defender Michael Gallagher were announced as the most recent signees.
Ian Lang is a product of Burien, Washington, and played his high school soccer for the Kennedy Lancers. In his freshman season as a Husky, Lang appeared in 14 games and the defender chipped in with one goal for the Dawgs.
“Ian Lange had a great fall at the UW and we know him well as a Sounders Academy player,” said Darren Sawatzky, Head Coach and General Manager of the Sounders U-23. “Ian is tough, and he can play many positions. We will look for consistent minutes out of Ian this summer.”
Michael Harris will be heading into his senior season at the UW this fall. In his three seasons with the Huskies he’s played in 53 games, scored two goals, and brings his unique “flip-throw” technique to the set-pieces.
“We are excited to have Michael Harris onboard this summer. He is looking for a challenge as he gets ready for his college season and we like his versatility. He is a welcome addition to the group,” said Darren Sawatzky.
Michael Gallagher is another Western Washington native from Sammamish, Washington, and will be heading into his sophomore season at the UW. In his freshman season, Gallagher started 17 games for the Huskies, and he was named the 30th Best Freshman in the NCAA by Top Drawer Soccer.
“Gally is a very talented player and he is growing at the UW,” Sawatzky said. “He finished strong this fall, and we will work to get him ready for the college season and continue to monitor his progress.”
The trio of local talent will join a Sounders U-23 club primed to repeat as PDL Western Conference Champions. The Sounders U-23 kick off their PDL season against the Portland Timbers U-23 on May 16th in Portland.
