The Sounders two-win Eastern trip apparently cured a lot of ills on the team, including some literal ones.
Here's what coach Sigi Schmid said when asked about the health of his team heading into tomorrow's game vs. San Jose.
"Everybody wants to play now: We’ve won," he said. "We haven’t lost, so everybody’s feeling a lot healthier. As a result there will be some tough decisions we have to make because there are some guys who have played well who don’t necessarily deserve to lose their spot on the field. And there are also some guys who it will be their third game in eight days, so maybe fatigue will lead to some changes as well. And there are also some guys who are coming off injuries that are able to go, but are they truly able to go 90 minutes or are they 50-60 minute guys. As a coach you have to balance that and say I can’t have too many guys on the field who I don’t think can make it through 90 minutes, so I have to make those decisions as well."
Interesting as all that was, we tried again, asking specifically about Obafemi Martins, Steve Zakuani and Shalrie Joseph, who all missed the trip with various health issues. However, this follow-up did not yield a spectacular breakthrough:

"I think they’re all to greater or lesser extents available, He said. "That’s something we’re going to talk about now. We’re going to make some decisions. We wanted to see how practice went today, and then we’ll make some decisions."
