Watch Sounders' Yedlin in U-20 World Cup on Friday

Sounders defender DeAndre Yedlin will make his second international appearance on Friday when the U.S. plays Spain in the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Turkey. The game will be shown by ESPN2 at 10:45 a.m.

The 19-year-old is being counted on by coach Tab Ramos, who did not select Yedlin for national team duty after Yedlin failed to impress at an earlier camp. But earning a starting job with the Sounders and playing in 16 games has made a difference, Ramos said.

“There are a number of things he brings to the table, with the No. 1 thing being his experience at this point," Ramos said in conference call on Tuesday.

"Having played a bunch of professional games over the past few months, and having trained in a professional environment where he has to earn his position every day, is certainly great for us."

Ramos said it won’t be an issue incorporating Yedlin into the lineup so soon before the team’s first World Cup game.

"His speed, his ability to go forward, which is what we like, his ability to get back on defense quickly and to play the game with urgency, which is the way we like to play," said Ramos.

"He was one of those pieces that we didn’t have to speak to too much as far as trying to fit him into our roster."

Yedlin made his debut for the U.S. on June 14 in the team’s 3-1 victory over Portugal. He started at right back in the team’s final match before the World Cup.
