The Sounders returned to training this morning at Starfire, and so was I after a week off. Thanks for your patience while things slowed a bit here, and thanks also to my fellow TNT staffers who helped fill in our soccer coverage in my absence. I'm back now, and shouldn't be gone again through the remainder of this MLS season.
As for today, I did not return to a ton of news -- as might be expected a couple of days removed from their last game and still about 10 days away from their next game.
My top takeaway from today was that coach Sigi Schmid really didn't think this was an especially bad performance -- certainly he seemed happier with this 2-0 loss than he did the 2-1 loss earlier this season at Real Salt Lake. No, two shots were enough, he admits. But he didn't think RSL's 17 shots reflected much of the real game flow either.
The only bit of news today was the return of rookie forward Eriq Zavaleta from a two-game loan to the NASL San Antonio Scorpions, and Schmid's heavy implication that Zavaleta will probably be heading back down to join the Scorpions again. (Which could prove useful, as he didn't get to see the Alamo on this trip.)
I'll be back soon with some more news and some direct quotes.
