Sounders off, but lots of other MLS action

LogoMLSThe Sounders are training today, but otherwise are off this weekend.

However, that's the exception in MLS where there is a good slate of games, including some East-vs.-West matches that give the Sounders and their fans a clear rooting interest.

Here are some previews from MLS:

Saturday, June 29

Toronto FC vs. Real Salt Lake, 10 a.m. (TSN)· Real Salt Lake won their third consecutive match and moved into a tie atop the Western Conference following their 2-0 victory against Seattle Sounders FC on Saturday evening at Rio Tinto Stadium.

· Kyle Beckerman scored his second goal of the season to send RSL on their way and also committed two fouls, becoming the all-time MLS leader in fouls committed with 478. Beckerman, who has played 314 games in his 14-year league career, surpassed Jesse Marsch, who played in 321 games.

· Toronto FC weren’t able to secure back-to-back wins for the first time in nearly a year, but still extended their undefeated run to three games in the scoreless draw Saturday at the Houston Dynamo.

· Real Salt Lake have never won and never scored a goal at BMO Field. TFC has won by a 1-0 scoreline on three occasions, including the last game at BMO Field, Aug. 13, 2011. The teams have twice played to scoreless draws there.

Philadelphia Union vs. FC Dallas, 2:30 p.m. (NBCSN)· The Union have scored three goals in back-to-back games for the first time in their MLS history after a second successive 3-0 victory Sunday vs. the New York Red Bulls. Philadelphia has scored 10 goals in their last four games.

· Conor Casey has scored three goals in the last two games, scoring multiple goals for the seventh time in his MLS career in the win against New York.

· FCD defender Walker Zimmerman scored his first professional goal to cap his club’s two-goal comeback for a 2-2 draw Saturday with Sporting Kansas City. FCD have extended their undefeated streak to 13 games in Frisco.

· FC Dallas are unbeaten all-time vs. Philadelphia, in five meetings. The teams have played to three draws, including both lifetime meetings in Philadelphia, and a 1-1 result last year in Frisco. FCD is 2-0-1 vs. Union at home.

D.C. United vs. Vancouver Whitecaps FC, 4 p.m.· D.C. United put an end to their club-record 13-game winless streak with their 1-0 win against San Jose on Saturday at RFK Stadium. It was D.C. United’s first win since March 9th.

· United’s lone goal came from the penalty spot, converted by Chris Pontius. United’s last two goals have both come on penalty kicks; they haven’t scored from run-of-play since May 19.

· Camilo Sanvezzo scored a pair of goals in Whitecaps FC’s last match, a 3-1 win against Chivas USA on June 19. Sanvezzo has six goals and three assists in the last five games; Vancouver has scored 13 goals in that time, going 3-1-1.

· The teams have evenly split their three meetings all-time. They played to a scoreless draw last year at BC Place, and each team won at home in 2011—the Whitecaps FC’s inaugural season.

Montreal Impact vs. Colorado Rapids, 4 p.m.· The Impact remain in first place in the Eastern Conference even after a weekend off last week. Their last match was a 2-0 win against Houston on June 19 at Stade Saputo.

· Marco Di Vaio scored his 10th goal to cap the win against Houston, and is now in a three-way tie atop the MLS Golden Boot standings with Philadelphia’s Jack McInerney and Chicago’s Mike Magee.

· The Rapids saw their losing streak extended to three matches, dropping a 3-0 decision to the Portland Timbers on Sunday afternoon.

· The Rapids won the only previous meeting between the teams, a wild 3-2 result last May 26 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.

Sporting Kansas City vs. Columbus Crew, 5:30 p.m.· Sporting KC saw their winless streak extended to four games with their third draw in that time, as FC Dallas staged a late comeback to leave the teams with a 2-2 result on Saturday evening in Frisco.

· The Crew suffered their third loss in their last five league games at Crew Stadium on Saturday, the Chicago Fire coming back for a 2-1 victory.

· The Crew have won four of their last five visits to Kansas City, including a 2-1 win last July 28 in the only encounter at Sporting Park. SKC’s only home win in the series since 2008 came in the first meeting at Sporting Park, in 2011.

· Since the 2008 season, the Crew have won seven meetings and SKC have won three, with two draws.

Chivas USA vs. New England Revolution, 7:30 p.m.· Chivas USA matched their club record when their losing streak was extended to seven games in a 1-0 defeat by the LA Galaxy in the second SuperClásico this season. Their overall league winless run stretched to 10 games—the second-longest in Chivas club history.

· The Revolution return to action after a weekend off, their five-game unbeaten streak put to an end in a wild 4-3 loss at Vancouver Whitecaps FC on June 15.

· It was the second time this season the Revolution had allowed four goals in a game, the first coming May 19 in a 4-1 loss to the New York Red Bulls. In the eight league games in between, the Revs conceded just three goals total.

· Chivas USA have a six-game undefeated streak alive vs. the Revolution. The teams played to a 3-3 draw in their only meeting last season, Aug. 29 at Gillette Stadium. That snapped a five-game Chivas winning streak in the series. The Revolution’s last win came July 19, 2009 in Foxborough.

San Jose Earthquakes vs. LA Galaxy, 7:30 p.m.· The Galaxy put an end to a three-game winless run in league play with a 1-0 victory Sunday evening vs. Chivas USA at StubHub Center. Gyasi Zardes scored his second career goal in the match.

· The Earthquakes lost for the first time with Mark Watson as head coach in his second game in charge--a 1-0 defeat by D.C. United on Saturday evening at RFK Stadium.

· The teams met in the Western Conference Semifinals a season ago. The Quakes won the first leg 1-0 in Carson, but the Galaxy claimed the series with a 3-1 win at Buck Shaw Stadium, the club’s first win in northern California since 2008.

· The Earthquakes have a seven-game league unbeaten streak alive at home against the Galaxy. The streak started Aug. 3, 2008, the second of the three meetings at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum.
