A year ago today, the Sounders were playing at Real Salt Lake. Two years ago, they were playing at Los Anglees. Three years ago, Los Angeles again.
The club trained this morning at Starfire, but then scattered to enjoy a rare Fourth of July mostly free.
"When I coached in LA we had a lot of Fourth of July games at home, but I never saw fireworks there either because it was after the game so I was usually inside," coach Sigi Schmid said. "This is the first time I think I’ve actually been at home and off on the Fourth of July since probably 1998. It’s been a while. … We’ll see if we can get somewhere and somebody can barbecue for us in the afternoon and then watch some games in the evening."
"To be honest with you I don’t remember having a Fourth of July that hasn’t been on the road," veteran defender Zach Scott said. "It seems like it’s been so long, so yeah this has been really great, and the weather’s been fantastic so I couldn’t ask for anything else."
