The Sounders finished training at Starfire in Tukwila this morning before heading down to San Jose for their 7:30 p.m. Saturday game against the Earthquakes.
Here's some of what coach Sigi Schmid had to say:
On the health of this team: Oba still hasn’t recovered from the kick he took in the calf in the Vancouver game. Shalrie’s calf is acting up again, so we’ll see. Ozzie is fine – came through training fine. Neagle’s fine. … Oba’s probably not going to play.
On the Quakes' shaky start after winning the Western Conference last regular season: They won a lot of games last year with late results, and sometimes things don’t bounce for you. But they’re still a quality team. I think they’ve had some hard luck a little bit, the bounces have gone against them. They’ve also dealt this year, I think, with injuries a little more than last year. Lenhart was available early on when Gordon was injured, then when Lenhart got injured a little bit, Gordon was available. Through suspensions and different reasons they were missing both of those guys at the same time. So, it’s just been for them an awkward year.
