Saturday night in Kitsap, the Sounders FC U-23 can win the 2013 Ruffneck Cup with a win over the Kitsap Pumas. To add to the drama, if the Pumas win or tie, they'll take the cup. Kickoff is 7pm at Bremerton High School.
The Ruffneck Cup is a yearly competition between the four PDL clubs located around the Puget Sound. The Sounders U-23, Kitsap Pumas, North Sound SeaWolves and Washington Crossfire all compete within the Premier Development league with the head to head meetings counting toward the Ruffneck Cup table. The Pumas have played five of their six Ruffneck Cup matches and have yet to lose, going 3-0-2 and earning 11 points. The SeaWolves gave it a late-season go but are eliminated from the Cup. The only club standing in the way of a Pumas Derby repeat is the Sounders U23. The two clubs meet on July 13 at Gordon Field in the final 2013 Ruffneck Cup match. The winner of that match will take home the trophy. For the Pumas, a draw would also secure the cup.
Saturday’s contest will also be a rematch of the wild 3-3 draw played between the two clubs in May.
