Alonso red card rescinded; contact "did not reach required threshold for violent conduct"

Here is the release from the league:

An independent review panel has rescinded the fine and one-game suspension for a red card issued to Seattle Sounders FC midfielder Osvaldo Alonso in second-half stoppage time of the July 13 game against the San Jose Earthquakes. The Sounders submitted a request for review of the play, the MLS Players Union allowed the request, and the independent review panel determined that the contact Alonso made with San Jose defender Dan Gargan did not reach the required threshold for violent conduct, i.e. brutal or excessive force. Alonso will be eligible for Seattle’s game this Saturday against the Colorado Rapids.

The independent review panel consists of one representative from each of the following entities: U.S. Soccer Federation, Canadian Soccer Association, and Professional Referees Organization (PRO).
