The Sounders returned to training this morning at Starfire Sports Complex, with Djimi Traore and Andy Rose returning to work. Obafemi Martins went down late when run into by teammate Mauro Rosales. Martins stayed down a while, then left field with a bit of a limp by under his own power. Coach Sigi Schmid said he hopes that won't be anything serious.
Schmid has little to add on the deal announced yesterday that sent Fredy Montero to Sporting Lisbon, but he indicated that the deal could be more involved that a simple "loan."
Schmid also addressed Eddie Johnson's 30 minutes of work off the bench in the USA national team's rout of El Salvador. "If we knew he was only going to play 30 minutes we could have maybe used him a little bit," Schmid said. "I talked to Jurgen after the game. We had talked about that a little bit, but obviously where they're playing right now it's really hot and humid and he thought some others had to adjust to humidity a little bit. He wanted to bring Eddie in at halftime and then because of the PK he said he decided not to. But then Eddie obviously made his mark when he came into the game, so it's good for him."
