Neagle's appearance is part of Sounders FC Night at Cheney Stadium. The event was announced in spring when the Sounders agreed to play Orlando City in an MLS Reserve League game May 12 at Cheney. Orlando won, 2-0, before a crowd 2,174.
Other parts of the Sounders Night celebration will include the Rainiers wearing Sounders-influenced uniforms, and Sounders/Rainiers scarves being distributed to the first 2,000 in attendance. The jerseys will be auctioned during the game for the benefit of Sounders Community Partners.
Here is a statement from Rainiers president Aaron Artman on how the partnership between the clubs came together:
“Seattle Sounders FC have the best soccer fans in the country, and a lot of them are in the South Sound area. Thursdays are always a fun night at Cheney, and I think this takes it to another level. Especially with the awesome rave green jerseys the team will be wearing for the game. Sounders FC is a great franchise to partner with. They do things the right way, and we have met a lot of great people within their organization. Their fans bring it, all the time. It’ll be fun to see that passion carry over to Cheney Stadium with Taijuan Walker on the mound. I’m excited.”
