However, MLS commissioner Don Garber almost overshadowed his league's showcase by announcing at halftime that the league will expand to 24 teams by the end of the decade. The league currently has 19 members, with No. 20 New York City expected to begin play in 2015.

Sounders coach Sigi Schmid said today that Yedlin's role tonight could determine his availablity for Saturday, when the Sounders return to MLS play against FC Dallas at CenturyLink Field.

"We’ll have to see how many games he’s going to play (tonight)," Schmid said. "He gets back here on Thursday, so I definitely think it’s a possibility for playing. Again, if he ends up playing 90 minutes (tonight) it makes it a little bit harder, but my understanding is I don’t see him starting, necessarily, and depending on how many minutes he plays there’s a good possibility he could play Saturday."
