Here's coach Sigi Schmid's response today when asked Clint Dempsey's projected role with the Sounders, and whether it increases his pressure to win an MLS Cup:
I think pressure’s always there, and pressure’s what you put on yourself. Certainly when you add a quality player, that makes you just that much better as a team. I think everybody on our team is very happy that Clint’s joining our team because it makes us a better team. Where exactly, how we’re going to play, that’s something we’ll work out in the next few days on the training ground, and then obviously in the next three or four games as people get to understand each other and understand their roles and how their roles maybe will chance a little bit. As far as pressure, Adrian wants me to succeed and he wants to win an MLS Cup. I want to win an MLS Cup. The guy sitting next to me (Dempsey) wants to win an MLS Cup. I think it certainly improves our chances, whether it’s this year, whether it’s next year, I can’t make those kinds of predictions and promises. But I can promise you this: We’re going to give it a go this year and put ourselves in position to win it.
