The Sounders have concluded training for another day. I'll be back with more details and quotes, but here were three highlights:
1.) Clint Dempsey didn't practice due to illness. Coach Sigi Schmid said it's early enough in the week where this doesn't rule him out for Saturday at Toronto> However, he said if Dempsey makes his Sounders debut in that one, it will likely be coming on late, or starting and then coming off -- but not 90 minutes.
2.) Shalrie Joseph trained and said he feels great. This was our first time to talk to him since he signed a new contract that surrendered his DP status. He said he didn't know that was part of a deal to bring in Dempsey, but he said he wants an MLS Cup and is happy to be reunited with his old New England teammate.
3.) Michael Gspurning trained fully. He said there is still pain, but he sounds eager to get back. Schmid wasn't ready to say if that will be this weekend. Schmid also said Andrew Weber's loan will extend at least into next week, as both Gspurning and even Marcus Hahnemann are still being monitored for health. Finally, Gspurning said he has no hard feelings toward San Jose's Steven Lenhart, but believes Lenhart could have stopped without stomping his forearm.
