Timbers-RSL end wild match in 3-3 draw

Update:The Timbers (9-3-12) are tied for second place in the Western Conference after a wild 3-3 draw with Real Salt Lake (12-8-6) on Wednesday.

Seattle is 10-8-4 and seventh in the West, two points short of playoff position, although with at least two games in hand on everyone above them.Pregame: The big Western Conference and even Supporters Shield match between Portland and Real Salt Lake will be shown at 8 p.m. today on Root.

RSL comes in 12-8-5, good for first place in the West and the most points in the league. Portland comes in 9-3-11, and therefore in striking distance just three points back.

Here's a preview from MLSsoccer.com.

After this one, the Timbers will get back into action Sunday, meeting the Sounders at sold-out CenturyLink Field.

We asked coach Sigi Schmid today if Portland's two games in five days could be a benefit to the Sounders.

"Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't," he said. "When you're playing games you sort of get into a rhythm of playing, and that's a good thing. Our guys would have much rather played a game tonight than have a hard training."
