Sounders win 1-0 before NW record crowd

The largest crowd ever to watch a soccer match in the Pacific Northwest was on hand a CenturyLink Field on Sunday.

The crowd of 67,385 watched Seattle Sounders FC edges the Portland Timbers 1-0.

The result moved Seattle to 11-8-4 and to the top of the Cascadia Cup standings at 2-1-1. Portland dropped to 9-4-12, still the fewest losses in the league, and remains at the bottom of the Cascadia Cup race at 0-1-3 behind Seattle and 1-1-2 Vancouver.

Some postgame notes from the club:

• Tonight’s attendance is 67,385. This is the largest-ever for a soccer game in Seattle. It also marks the second-largest attendance in MLS history for a standalone match, and the third-largest worldwide this weekend.

Timbers have scored 25 second-half goals this season, including MLS-high 11 in the first 15 minutes after halftime. Seattle and Portland each have conceded 11 second-half goals -- tied for fewest in MLS.
