Sounders Insider

Scott and Gspurning enjoyed it as much as you did

There were 67,385 in the stands at CenturyLink FIeld tonight, but it's doubtful many enjoyed the Sounders 1-0 win over Portland more than Zach Scott -- who was playing the Timbers for the 27th time -- and goalkeeper Michael Gspurning.

Just listen to Scott:I’m positive the majority of those are wins. I told the guys before the game: this career is so fleeting, there’s so much uncertainty day to day, whether you’re in the lineup, whether you have a job next year, but the one thing I know for certain is we beat Portland. We’re always going to be the team to beat. They can say there’s a changing of the guard, they can say we’re a group of stars and they’re the team, but in the end we’re the ones that are going to come out victorious.

On if there's anything sweeter than beating Portland: Soccer-wise, no. I can think of a lot more things. Portland’s not high on my list of things that I love. But soccer-wise; absolutely. It doesn’t matter how the season is going, you beat Portland, you win the Cascadia Cup for your fans, it’s tremendous.

GSPURNINGIt’s absolutely a highlight in my career, this night. Playing in front of 68,000, playing a derby, playing a great game with a win: awesome night. A night where I will remember in 20 years.
