Sounders coach Sigi Schmid said today that neither forward Obafemi Martins nor midfielder Shalrie Joseph traveled to Columbus for the match tomorrow with the Crew.
Schmid said an MRI on Martins ankle revealed nothing more than a sprain, and said he hopes Martins will be available Wednesday when the Sounders return home to meet Chivas USA -- and when Clint Dempsey, Eddie Johnson and Brad Davis will be away on national team duty.
"Shalrie and Obafemi both are not with us, so they’re not going to be able to play tomorrow," he said. "… (Oba’s MRI showed) a regular sprained ankle, nothing beyond that. But it was still swollen, it was still bothersome to him. We felt that it was important that we make sure that he was right for those games when we don’t have the national-team players – when we lose Eddie, Clint and Brad – so I made the decision to leave him at home and make sure that he’s right for Wednesday."
Schmid said Joseph has "a slight MCL sprain," and his return is questionable.
